Provincial Private Moorage Moratorium
A Provincial private moorage moratorium has been in place since 2021 within the waterways south of Gabriola, down past the Gulf Islands and onto the west side of the W̱SÁNEĆ peninsula. This moratorium restricts private landowners from installing new moorages, including docks, boat ramps, and boat lifts. The moratorium is set to expire in August 2025. Malahat Nation Opposes Bill 15
On May 13th, 2025, Premier David Eby introduced Bill 15 - the Infrastructure Projects Act. This Bill would grant the Cabinet extraordinary powers to expedite major infrastructure projects in BC. The Minister of Infrastructure, Bowinn Ma, says the Bill is to speed up building critical infrastructure such as schools and hospitals.
