Policies, agreements, and housing resources that support safe, respectful, and community-centered living at Malahat Nation.

Building Homes, Building Community

The Housing Department is here to help build a community where members feel safe, respected, and at home. We work to provide housing options that are affordable, energy-efficient, and managed with fairness and transparency. In partnership with the Housing Manager, the department oversees day-to-day housing operations and programs so support remains practical, responsive, and grounded in community needs.

Housing Policy

The Housing Policy explains how housing is managed on reserve to keep access fair, consistent, and sustainable for members. It covers rental programs, tenant responsibilities, rent and rate-setting, collection processes, and maintenance expectations. Together, these guidelines support safe, well-maintained homes and a stable, supportive living environment for the community.

Agreements

Review documents that support clear expectations for tenancy, pets, and shared community living.

Rental Agreement

Our Rental Agreement supports respectful, stable living by outlining tenant and landlord responsibilities. It covers on-time rent, no smoking or cannabis cultivation in units, community pet rules, repair responsibilities, and inspection processes so homes stay safe and well cared for.

Pet Agreement

We welcome pets with clear expectations that protect neighbours and homes. The Pet Agreement allows up to two pets per household and covers registration, proper care, keeping pets on property unless leashed, and tenant responsibilities for cleanliness, damage, and applicable pet fees or deposits.

Repairs & Maintenance

This framework guides the Housing Department to respond clearly, protect residents, and care for homes over time.

Guiding principles

Health and safety come first. Decisions are also shaped by stewardship, fairness, accountability, and long-term sustainability.
